This is an item that I recently used in one of my campaigns, which revolved heavily around investigation and murder mystery, so as you can imagine it came quite in handy.
Alternatively you can make this a 3rd/4th level spell that requires concentration, but I preferred to make it an item, so that any character can have access to it, and not only spellcasters.
